The short version: Ancient does its work on your machine. Nothing about the pages you visit leaves your browser. The one thing that does is a licence key, and only if you buy Pro.

Applies to: the Ancient browser extension and this website.
All filtering happens locally. The extension ships with its filter lists, element-hiding rules and scriptlets inside the package, and matches them against pages as you browse. That means:
Stored locally, on your machine only, in the browser's extension storage:
| Stored | Why |
|---|---|
| Your settings and feature toggles | So the extension behaves the way you left it. |
| Your allowlist of sites | So sites you have turned blocking off for stay off. |
| Your licence key and token, if you have Pro | So you do not have to enter it again. |
| Per-tab and total blocked counts | For the number on the toolbar badge. |
Uninstalling the extension deletes all of it.
If you activate a Pro licence, the extension contacts the licence server to check that the key is real and has not been revoked. This is the only network request the extension makes on its own behalf. It sends:
| Sent | What it actually is |
|---|---|
key |
The licence key you typed in. |
installId |
A random 16-byte value generated on your machine. It identifies an installation, not a person, and it is not derived from anything about your computer. |
fingerprint |
A truncated SHA-256 hash of your licence key. Despite the name it says nothing about your device — it is derived entirely from the key. |
product, version |
The fixed string ancient and the extension's version number. |
No page data is included in that request. It does not know or ask which sites you visit, and the server cannot reconstruct your browsing from it.
The server is hosted on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare may log the IP address of requests as part of operating the service, under Cloudflare's own privacy policy. We do not use those logs to identify anyone.
So that a licence can be honoured and abuse can be stopped, the server keeps:
That is the entire database. There is no profile of your browsing, because the server is never told about it.
Card details are handled entirely by the payment provider. They never reach the extension or the licence server, and are never stored by us.
The extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them.
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the date at the top changes and the change is described in the extension's release notes. Continuing to use the extension after a change means you accept it.
